I stayed here with a group of friends for a 40th birthday last weekend, and we had a great time from start to finish! I think Fiona was the name of the woman on reception and also sorted us out for dinner, she was like a one woman show, she deserves a raise!! The hot tub was awesome, beautiful views, food was delish and Tom jones tribute act(Robert) had us all up dancing and singing!! The only slight draw back was the bed was not very comfortable, buuuut the room was lovely and the hotel was very clean!

People can be so critical. The hotel is in a fabulous location. Although it’s an older hotel we found it to be updated, clean and comfortable. The real superstars were the staff, they could not be more helpful, and the friendliest of people, real old school customer service. The food was good and plenty of choice. Don’t be put off by all the negative reviews, factor in the price you paid and enjoy the hotel for what it is. People can be so critical. The hotel is in a fabulous location. We had a lovely stay here with another couple of friends. Paid a bit extra for a loch view which was lovely, but our room was very cold through the night. As we only stayed one night we didn't inform staff about this. We did leave a set of keys in one of the drawers, but when we phoned about them told they were not there!! I know this is not staff fault, but do know the keys were left in the drawers..

Is this a 5* hotel? No. However, I do feel, due to our recent stay, the negative reviews seam unduly harsh and it is certainly not one of the worst hotels I have stayed at; I've stayed at higher stars with a lower standard. We certainly we got what we paid for (and a little more). Our room was large and spacious, we paid for a loch view room and the view we had was great. The room was a little cold when we arrived (the heater was off), may be worth while asking people for an expected time of arrival or having it set on low. However, after 10 minutes the room was warm. The heater is the standard electric heater you get in a lot of hotels. A little dust behind the headboard but all surfaces, sheet and towels were clean. We had no issues with hot water in the shower (turn until high flow and then adjust the temperature). The dinner we had was lovely, the steak pie was excellent. Breakfast was large and cooked fresh so lovely and hot. The tea and coffee was strong, no weak as water. WiFi was fine in the communal areas, the room it was weaker, we expected this and were happy as we were on a break to get away and this allowed us to switch off. All the staff we encountered were lovely, especially the gentleman on the bar on Sunday evening.
